Secure Network Systems Limited

Profile

Introduction

Over the last few years the IT Security threat landscape has changed from the days of the lone, unsociable male teenager to a fully thriving business run and sponsored by illegal organisations, foreign countries an indeed by some companies against their competitors. These security intrusions are successfully used to steal intellectual copyright materials, identities, customer details and just about anything that can be stored in a digital format on any device that is connected to the Internet.

Even more worrying is that these so called Black Hats now boast to have the power of many tens of thousands of remotely controlled BOT machines that can be sold to the highest bidder and called on at anytime to either cause damage, harvest information or be used as a password cracking network grid without any of the owners even being aware or indeed being logged. The attacks that emanate from these remote Bot Networks can be used to knock out multiple web sites, act as spoof banking websites for phishing scams or collect information with a very long audit trail that is typically International and therefore could take months or years to unravel by which time the perpetrators have long gone, taken revenue and customers away and evolved into the next new threat.

This network of BOT Grids comprise of computers of the business community and home users that have connection to the Internet, some at almost 10Mbps Ethernet rate and are geographically dispersed. The basic firewalls by default are designed to protect at the ingress point not at the egress point and again users are typically unaware that their PC has been infected and have remote control software hidden on them.

The view of SNS is that there should be a government style health warning on all Internet connected equipment, especially aimed at the director/board level:

You and your organisations IT Assets are at constant risk.
Protect your corporate data for all it is worth.
The Data locker in the vault of your IT infrastructure is your Treasure.
Your IT and Network assets need the same consideration as securing your home

At the same time, organisations need to ensure that they do not inadvertently help the attackers by driving down a well publicised security policy from upper management to all users together with a fair use policy whereby users can access certain websites at particular times of the day.

To help with the deployment of the security policy there are a plethora of Universal Threat Management devices or standalone products that have successfully been deployed to counter the past, present and day zero threats and minimise the risk of downtime on production systems, offering cost effective, rapid detection and overall protection with ease of use.

SNS continuously partners with security vendors and the distribution channels to offer the best of breed products to meet with the customers’ Security strategy and budgets for both large and small companies alike to ensure that they have the upper hand when dealing with these and future attacks.

Mission

SNS Professional Services

In the eyes of SNS, IT security not as just a conglomeration of firewalls, Spam Filters, Intrusion Prevention, or UTM hardware, as the be all and end all, but as tools for compliance to a well publicised and practiced corporate Security Policy driven down by upper management and supported by the IT Staff and ultimately by the end users.
